Overview

The IELTS speaking exam involves an 11-14 minute conversation with an examiner. It is important to know how the exam is marked so you have the best chance of getting the grade you need. Marking Criteria

1. Fluency and CoherenceThis criterion marks your ability to speak fluently with appropriate linking of ideas.
2. Lexical Resource (Vocabulary)This criterion marks your ability to use a wide range of vocabulary accurately and appropriately to express yourself, even when you don’t know a specific word.
3. Grammatical Range and AccuracyThis criterion marks your ability to use a good range of grammar accurately and appropriately.
4. PronunciationThis criterion marks your ability to use the appropriate word and sentence pronunciation, including stress and intonation.
