4 or 5 Paragraphs
I recommend 4 or 5 paragraphs for a well written IELTS Task 2 Essay.
As we know from the IELTS Writing Marking Criteria, your IELTS Writing Task 2 answer needs to be complete, logical and have organised ideas. To do this you need an introduction, two or three main body paragraphs to discuss the sides of an argument or answer questions, and finally a conclusion.
Essay Structure
- Introduction – Introduce your essay topic and the discussion to follow
- Main Body Paragraph 1 – Discuss and argue the first side or discussion point of your essay
- Main Body Paragraph 2 – Discuss and argue the second side or discussion point of your essay
- [Main Body Paragraph 3 – Discuss and argue the third side or discussion point of your essay if required]
- Conclusion – Summarise and provide a final statement for your essay
Remember!
The essay task is designed to test your ability to discuss a question or statement clearly and logically with relevant evidence and/or examples from your own experience. The number of paragraphs you choose to use will depend on the essay topic and how you plan to express your ideas clearly.
