Don’t Act. Be Natural.

The way you act in your IELTS speaking exam is important because it can affect your answers and even your final score. Here are some useful tips on how to behave during your IELTS speaking exam.

1. Have Good Eye Contact
Make sure you look at the examiner naturally. If you look down all the time you will appear shy and nervous.

2. Be Friendly and Polite
Smile and be friendly in your exam. Remember, the exam is testing your real-world English speaking abilities so be polite.

3. Sit Like At A Dinner Table
This is a semi-formal situation so sit appropriately. Imagine you have been invited to dinner at your boss’s house.

4. Dress Smart
This is an exam, not a day at the beach. Dress appropriately.

5. Be Yourself and Be Honest
The examiner often knows when you are lying so be honest and your speaking will seem more natural when telling the truth.

Remember!

The speaking exam is designed to test your speaking abilities in all areas of English life, from common topics to more detailed discussion. Practice speaking about many different topics in a natural and appropriate way.
