The line graph demonstrates [1] the average yearly expense for mobile phones and landlines over a decade, from 2001 to 2010. Overall, more people spent on residential phone services during the first half of the decade [2], while mobiles surpassed this in the later years. Additionally [3], home-phone expenditures steadily decreased, while the expenses from portable devices increased in the period of 9 years.

In detail, the outgoing expenses [4] for home-phone services was close to $700, while cell phone services averaged to $200 per year in 2001. Although services used via telephone lines steadily fell throughout the years, their expenditure was greater than that of the mobile services until 2006. Both expenditures of telephone communication equally averaged at around $530 in 2006 [5].

Progressing forward [6], phone services from cellular devices continued to expand, surpassing the other, whilst landline services were declining after 2006. In the second half of the decade, phone services from cellular devices continued to increase whilst landline services declined, continuing the same trends as before. The average mobile service expenses reached highest spending at the end of the decade, at $750, while the residential line services finished at a low of $400 the same year.
