What are synonyms?
Synonyms are words or phrases which mean exactly or nearly the same as another word or set of words.
Why are synonyms important?
Throughout the IELTS exam modules, synonyms are used to test you. In the reading and listening exams, synonyms are used to test if you understand what is being said or has been written. Often the questions will include the same information as in the content using different words or phrases, with different grammatical and sentence structures. Being able to answer the questions correctly will really show your level of English use.
Remember!
Synonyms are useful but must be used with care. Always find an example of how to use new words to check they have the meaning you want and that you can use them properly.
